Dining Room Tables Guide

It is very important that you understand how much space the set is going to take up. You want to measure your room and analyze how the dining room set will fit in it. For the most comfort and versatility, leave about 45-50 inches between the edge of your dining table and anything else besides the chairs that come with the set. This will allow you to move the chairs freely and have some walkway behind them. Since the dining tables are offered in various shapes, you want to figure out which type will fit your dining room the best.

Round tables are usually slightly smaller and will be a better choice for smaller rooms with limited space. However, they do not offer as much seating and comfort at the table as other shapes.

Oval and rectangular tables are the most popular ones in big dining sets because of their capacity and design. These tables are a better fit in large dining rooms, so choosing between them is up to your preferences.

Dining tables come in different materials as well, leaving you with many choices. Quality wood tables are usually very durable and will only require a polish from time to time. However the softer woods that most manufacturers use are prone to getting scratched, leaving you to choose between scratches or using a table cloth. Glass tables are not as easily scratched and marked, but are very prone to fingerprints. It is easily erasable with even a napkin, but is still something to consider. Lacquered wood is what you get when you buy a dining table in a plain color like white or black. It is wood that has been painted with a glossy finish over it. Modern tables are very durable and you will not notice the aging for a while.

If you decide to purchase dining furniture in pieces, make sure that the chairs' arms fit under the table, as it will be very inconvenient if the chairs will be unable to go under the table. About a foot between the seat of the chair and the top of the table is the general rule for nicely fitting the chairs under the table. Keep in mind the height of the back, the width of the seat and the weight of the chairs to avoid any inconvenience with your children or other family members.
